Covering 14 kilometers of isolated natural beauty, this crater is surrounded by a ring of extinct volcano and serves as a sanctuary for an estimated 20,000 animals including the threatened black Rhino.
The Leirai Forest- meaning ‘fever’ tree- grows on the incredibly steep slopes, giving way to grassy plains and lakes. This Eden is a delicately balanced wilderness where survival of the fittest is definitely the order of the day.
This crater is one of the most outstanding sights to behold as the sense of true wilderness envelopes visitors reminding them that we are but spectators, awkward intruders, in a forgotten world.
